I always like to be making something, I love the sense of achievement I get from making something from scratch with my own little hands. I went through rug making, tapestry, cross stitch, crocheting and knitting before I first saw a beaded daisy chain necklace on the neck of a woman in a queue in front of me at an airport, I must have been breathing on that poor woman’s neck trying to work out the thread path and she didn’t even flinch…… and that when my jewellery making started.
Seed beads have remained my favorite – and I roam and look at other techniques but I always return to them as they are the comfortable old slippers of my stash. They are easy to use and so very very colourful.
I love to share the making of these pieces and encourage others to stray from the pattern and let the elements dictate the final piece. Watching others work with beads is amazing. Watching them develop something in their mind and then their enthusiasm to get working on it to see how it will work out is priceless.
